Environmental waste due to plastic pollution is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based packaging have long been sought. An innovative solution is the versatile barrier papers that are recyclable and ideally biodegradable. The coating process for these papers is demanding; in addition to the perfect application of one or more functional layers, the drying of the sometimes temperature-sensitive application media is a challenge.
In response to changing market demand, Shandong Huatai Paper decided to rebuild and modernize PM 11 in order to progressively convert newsprint production to high-quality graphic paper. The paper producer selected the full-line supplier Voith as a suitable partner. After the rebuild, the production line will have a significantly increased annual capacity of 520,000 tons at a design speed of 1,800 m/min. The rebuilt production plant, located in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong, will start up in 2023.

The COVID 19 pandemic has driven up demand around the globe for e-commerce boxes and other delivery packaging sealed with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Boxes containing purchased items typically are sealed with adhesive strips that are applied by hot melt systems and then covered with silicone tape. These pressure-sensitive adhesive closures securely seal the packaging.
