Stora Enso and HS Manufacturing Group enter collaboration to develop sustainable barriers for formed fiber products

Stora Enso has entered into a strategic collaboration with HS Manufacturing Group (HSMG), a producer of plant-based barrier coatings, to develop Stora Enso’s formed fiber offering. Stora Enso will leverage HSMG’s PROTĒAN™ technology for food contact packaging applications. The technology offers a biodegradable and recyclable additive that gives fiber-based packaging water-, grease- and oil-resistant properties.

Study confirms 70% less climate impact from paper packaging

BillerudKorsnäs is offering an innovative paper, FibreForm®, to make laminates for trays used in food packaging. Now, a recent life cycle assessment performed by RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden, shows that a packaging tray made from FibreForm has up to 71% less global warming impact compared to trays made of only plastic.

- The life cycle assessment study is the first of its kind that compares the environmental profile of plastic-based trays against paper. The difference in climate impact is substantial, says Michael Sturges, who lead the study at RISE.

Environmentally friendly packaging at FachPack 2019

On 24 September 2019, FachPack, the European trade fair for packaging, processes and technologies, will open its doors for three days at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. The 1,590 exhibitors (39 percent from outside Germany) will then present their products and innovations to some 45,000 trade visitors. For 40 years, FachPack has been where packaging specialists from far and wide come to find out about the latest trends in the industry.
