Out with plastic, in with paperboard – a circular solution for doughnut packaging

For tasty snacks like doughnuts, plastic has typically been used to keep the product intact and safe – and help keep our fingers clean. But with Metsä Board’s help, producers can change to paperboard-based packaging that does the same job but is easily recyclable and compostable. Metsä Board's Kemi mill development programme completed

The development programme for Metsä Board's white kraftliner mill in Kemi has been completed in parallel with Metsä Fibre's new bioproduct mill. Metsä Board and Metsä Fibre are part of Metsä Group. In addition to increasing the mill’s capacity by 40,000 tonnes per year, the development programme will reduce the mill's energy consumption by 5% and water consumption by around 40% per tonne produced.

Metsä Board Husum prepares to start up expanded BM1 this autumn

Smurfit Kappa agrees to acquire state of the art 600,000 tonne recycled containerboard mill

Smurfit Kappa Group plc (“SKG” or the “Group”) agrees to acquire Verzuolo, a containerboard business in Northern Italy, for a cash consideration of €360 million. The Verzuolo mill owned by the Burgo Group, is situated close to the port of Savona in the northwest of Italy. The PM9 machine was newly constructed in 2002 and converted into a 600,000 tonne capacity recycled containerboard machine in 2019.
