A new cash flow to local farmers

Local farmers’ ability to sell biomass to Iggesund Paperboard’s paperboard mill at Workington will return over 1.5 million pounds annually to the local agricultural industry. The initiative has created a totally new source of income for close to 200 farms in Cumbria and Scotland. It was recently given Rushlight Bioenergy Award. The Rushlight Awards is a set of awards designed specifically to support and promote all the latest clean technologies, innovations, initiatives and deployment projects for businesses and other organisations throughout UK, Ireland and internationally.

Metsä Board Husum celebrates 100 years of fibre excellence

On 24 January Metsä Board’s Husum mill, in Sweden, celebrates its 100-year anniversary. The mill started as a pulp mill in 1919 with a capacity of 20,000 tonnes of unbleached softwood kraft pulp. Today Metsä Board Husum is a modern and efficient integrated mill site with production capacities of 400,000 tonnes folding boxboard, 250,000 tonnes white kraftliner and 730,000 tonnes of bleached hardwood and softwood pulps.

Södra’s sustainability achievements recognised with two Sofidel awards

Södra received two of the 2018 Sofidel Suppliers Sustainability Awards (3SAward) presented in Columbus, Ohio (USA) on October 4. Södra was named Best Supplier in the Pulp Producer Category and in the Best Sustainable Project, Social Category.

The prestigious 3SAward is an accolade awarded each year by the tissue manufacturer Sofidel to the suppliers who have distinguished themselves through their environmental and social sustainability activities.
