Stora Enso invests to strengthen focus on specialised pulp grades
Stora Enso strengthens its focus on specialised pulp grades by investing EUR 38 million in unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) production at its Enocell site in Finland and EUR 42 million in fluff pulp production improvement at its Skutskär site in Sweden. These investments will support the growing consumer demand for non-bleached renewable packaging materials and hygiene products respectively.

Södra to raise price of NBSK to USD 960/tonne
Södra Cell is increasing the price of its northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp in Europe to $960, effective 1 January 2021.
“Despite challenges in 2020 the demand for our NBSK stayed healthy throughout the year. Now we distinguish clear signs of the global NBSK market recovering, and in addition we also sense the impact of multiple maintenance stops reducing supply, further improving the market balance.
Holmen acquires Martinsons
Today Holmen signed an agreement to acquire Martinsons, one of Sweden’s leading players in sawn and processed wood products. The purchase price is SEK 1.0 billion for 100 per cent of the shares. The acquisition will almost double Holmen’s sales of wood products to over SEK 3 billion, while also advancing positions in wood construction and providing Holmen with the capacity to process the majority of the raw material from its own forests in its own industry.
Södra posts a stable result but the outlook remains unclear
Södra’s operating profit during Q2 was stable given current market conditions. Deliveries were higher year-on-year, but prices for Södra’s core products were considerably weaker than in 2019. For the first half of 2020, operating profit totalled SEK 449 million (2,009), return on capital employed was 4 per cent (19) and the equity ratio was 57 per cent. Sales for the second quarter amounted to SEK 5,416 million (6,199) and operating profit totalled SEK 221 million (861).
Kemira rated as top 1% for sustainability by global rating platform EcoVadis
Kemira has been awarded with the Gold level rating by the global sustainability rating platform EcoVadis. With a total score of 75 out of 100, this puts Kemira among the top 1% of companies in the world.
Companies scoring between 62 and 100 receive the Gold rating and make up the top 5%. This is the fifth consecutive year that Kemira has achieved a Gold rating.

Sappi Limited, a leading global producer of dissolving wood pulp, speciality and packaging papers, graphic paper and biomaterials, today announced that it had signed an agreement to acquire the 270,000 tons per year Matane high yield hardwood pulp mill from Rayonier Advanced Materials for US$175 million.
