Verified study shows that Metsä Board paperboard can reduce carbon footprint of food packaging by over 60%

According to recent life cycle assessment* conducted by Metsä Board, switching from white-lined chipboard (WLC) to Metsä Board’s folding boxboard can reduce the carbon footprint of food packaging by over 60%. The LCA study, which compared MetsäBoard Classic FBB to corresponding grades available in European markets, was verified by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

FOLBB starts multi-year modernisation and sustainability investment program

As a first step the folding boxboard mill will replace the current press by a new shoe press. The infrared installation used to dry the cartonboard will be upgraded at the same time. This will result in higher production efficiency and lower gas consumption. “This is the first step in a multi-year investment process to modernise the mill and make it more sustainable”, says Otto van Beers, managing director of Folding Boxboard Eerbeek.

RDM Group Announces GD Board Production Capicity Expansion

RDM Group has decided to expand its GD production capacity by up to 200 kt over the next 3 years in order to support the growth of its customers, partners, and the market.

The European demand for GD board has been growing for the last 18 months. In addition to the effects of the pandemic on the supply chain and its challenges, RDM Group believes that this growing demand is linked to a change in structural factors, such as plastic substitution, relocation of activities from the Far East, and also increased use of recycled material in packaging.

ANDRITZ paper technology sets new standards in containerboard production

The PM10 at Laakirchen Papier AG, part of the Heinzel Group, Austria, that was rebuilt by ANDRITZ has become the world’s fastest converted containerboard production machine with speeds of up to 1,420 m/min at a basis weight ranging from 80 to 140 g/m².

Over the last few years, ANDRITZ converted the PM10 from production of SC paper to a fluting and testliner machine. The scope of supply comprised the stock preparation section, a comprehensive rebuild of the paper machine, and the complete automation.
