Arctic Paper S.A., Q2/H1 2019: Greater flexibility in production opens for new business

During the second quarter of 2019, Arctic Paper Group reached a turnover of PLN 762.5 million (compared to PLN 784.1 million in Q2 2018) with an EBITDA of PLN 90.5 million (vs. PLN 65.9 million). On the consolidated level, the result continues to be strong. The combination of pulp and paper stabilizes our results, as the fluctuations on the two segments offset each other.

Mitsubishi HiTec Paper with two innovations at Labelexpo Europe 2019

With two innovations in store, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper is presenting a wide range of coated specialty papers for the label and packaging market at Labelexpo Europe 2019. The new products: jetscript METAL VPG 1018, a metallic-silver gloss inkjet paper for the water-based inkjet printing of self-adhesive labels, as well as barricote BAG WGOM, a fully recyclable barrier paper for flexible food packaging with multi-barrier against water vapour, grease and oil, oxygen and aroma as well as mineral oil migration.

BillerudKorsnäs first to produce paper battery on a paper machine

BillerudKorsnäs continues the development of the paper battery and has during the spring completed the world's first production on a paper machine. The project is thus a step closer to the commercialisation of both small and large-scale energy storage in a paper battery.

In collaboration with researchers at Uppsala University, basic research has been developed to be able to use ordinary paper fibers for the manufacturing of batteries.

European pulp and paper industry creates 2,000 more jobs in 2018

In 2018, CEPI members produced 92.2 million tonnes of paper and board, keeping the same level of production than in 2017, and benefiting from a healthy economic environment.

For the first time since 1990s, the sector opened 9 new mills and created 2,000 more jobs with a total increased turnover of +3%.

Stora Enso plans consolidation of spruce production to one sawmill in Finland

Stora Enso plans to consolidate the Finnish spruce (whitewood) production to Varkaus sawmill. The plan includes a permanent closure of Kitee sawmill and production increase to Varkaus. The objective is to improve profitability and competitiveness by creating a fully integrated sawmill for spruce production in Varkaus, optimising the synergies from the existing LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber), pulp and board mills.

Starkraft, Business Unit of Zellstoff Pöls AG, successfully starts up its second paper machine

Built with an investment volume of 130 million euros in a construction time of 17 months, the new PM3 can produce 100,000 metric tons of kraft paper per year. The new machine increases the total paper production capacity of the Styrian plant to 200,000 metric tons per year, making Zellstoff Pöls AG one of the globally leading manufacturers of white kraft paper. With this investment, the company continues its ambitious growth course in this segment, which was started with the commissioning of the PM2 in 2013.
 

Stora Enso will convert the Oulu paper mill into a packaging board mill

Stora Enso has decided to invest approximately EUR 350 million to convert the Oulu paper mill in Finland into packaging production. The investment includes converting paper machine 7 into high-quality virgin-fibre-based kraftliner production, and the closure of paper machine 6 and sheeting plant. Production on the converted machine is estimated to start by the end of 2020.
