New study shows that paper-based single-use packaging can have a better environmental impact than reusable packaging

Folding Cartons recyclable in the waste paper stream

Folding cartons are recyclable as part of the paper stream collected from private households. This is confirmed by a recent, wide-ranging study commissioned by the Fachverband Faltschachtel-Industrie (German Folding Carton Association, FFI) from the Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS). All the analyzed folding carton types revealed that the fibre component of the various folding carton packaging can be fully recycled. As expected, the pulp yield was reduced only by the proportion of non-paper product components, e.g. plastics from barrier coatings or window materials.

Innovative and recyclable drink cooler made with paperboard

Showcasing a sustainable alternative for food packaging – that was the aim of the new demo project by Weilburger Graphics. The company created an innovative and recyclable beverage cooler made from paperboard and using a completely new waterproof coating. For the material they chose Metsä Board’s, part of Metsä Group, strong and lightweight fresh fibre paperboard. The innovative packaging comes with a cooling tray and that can take up to 500 g of crushed ice or cold water.

New corrugated berry packaging complements premium strawberries with top quality print

Corrugated board is traditionally used for packaging to protect berries and fruit throughout the production chain. However, the added value it can give to sales recognition and branding goes even further. Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, and DS Smith have implemented a modern and top-quality berry box together with their partner network. The packaging is printed using process colour and Full HD technology, which has reduced ink consumption while enabling exceptionally high image quality and bright colours.
