HEINZEL GROUP signs agreement for acquisition of Steyrermühl paper mill from UPM

HEINZEL GROUP announces today that it has entered into a share purchase agreement with UPM to acquire UPM Kymmene Austria GmbH and its subsidiaries in Steyrermühl, Upper Austria. Together with Heinzel's Laakirchen Papier AG, which is located less than three kilometers from the Steyrermühl paper mill, the site will become a hub for sustainable packaging papers and renewable energy with closing of the transaction on January 1st, 2024. The deal is contingent on approval from relevant competition authorities.
 

Stora Enso assesses growth opportunities in recycled packaging materials with a conversion in Langerbrugge

Stora Enso has started a feasibility study at its paper production site in Langerbrugge, Belgium, for the conversion of one of the two paper lines into a high-volume recycled containerboard line. Aligned with Stora Enso’s strategic focus on renewable materials, the investment would support the growth opportunity created by the increasing demand for recycled packaging board.

Sonoco continues its investment plan to strengthen uncoated recycled paperboard mill system in U.S. and Canada.

Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, recently announced a significant investment to strengthen its Uncoated Recycled Paperboard (URB) mill system in the U.S., transforming its Hartsville, S.C., corrugated medium machine into a state-of-the-art URB machine.

Mondi completes acquisition of Olmuksan

Further to the announcement made on 5 January 2021, Mondi confirms that all conditions have been satisfied and it has completed the acquisition of 90.38% of the outstanding shares in Olmuksan International Paper Ambalaj Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş (“Olmuksan” or the “Company”) from International Paper for a total consideration of €66 million. The implied enterprise value on a 100% basis would amount to around €88 million.

Stora Enso invests in production line for granulated lignin

Stora Enso is investing EUR 14 million to build a granulation and packing plant for lignin, allowing easier packing and handling of lignin compared to powder and wet form. According to Stora Enso’s strategy, lignin is one of the key innovation areas for delivering growth on new applications, such as energy storage, binders and carbon fiber. The granulation plant will be located at Stora Enso’s Sunila Mill in Finland.

Arctic Paper to develop high barrier biodegradable paper with co-financing of NCBIR

Arctic Paper Kostrzyn S.A., a subsidiary of the Arctic Paper S.A., has signed a contract with Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) for co-financing of the project “Development and implementation of technology for production of high-barrier biodegradable packaging paper” as part of the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014–2020. The total net value of the project is over PLN 20 million, and the maximum value of the co-financing is about PLN 8.3 million.
