Solenis to Acquire the Paper Business of ChemSystems

Effective February 28, 2020, Solenis signed an agreement to acquire the paper business of ChemSystems, a division of AECI Ltd. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2020.

Headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, ChemSystems produces and supplies specialized chemical solutions for water-intensive industries, including the pulp, paper and tissue manufacturing industries in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. Until this acquisition, the business was Solenis’ pulp and paper specialty chemical distributor in Africa.

B. Buckman ANNOUNCES Global Paper Division PRICE INCREASE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1

Buckman, a global company specializing in innovative chemical and smart solutions, announced global price increases for its paper division. The increases are being driven by rising raw materials, constraints from supply chain tightness and growing challenges associated with freight costs.

The price increases will be effective January 1, 2019, or as contracts allow. Below is a breakdown of the expected increases across each product lines. In addition to product price increases, Buckman will implement freight delivery increases in certain regions as required.

SCA has developed a new sustainable sizing additive to produce water resistant paper

The innovation concerns a sizing additive that SCA has developed to improve the production of water resistant, hydrophobic, paper. The additive can be produced in a green sustainable manner. The development work is still ongoing and no decisions have not been taken regarding commercialization.

With the new sizing additive it could be possible to replace the addition of commercial sizing agents in the paper production. The resulting paper exhibit improved water resistance and UV-light stability.
